Creatures from Trapped in a Tale
Trapped in a Tale

The DVDs of our SMTW performance are almost ready! Maggie has been working hard combining the best of both performances into one movie with chapter breaks. A few clips of the songs can be found on our youtube channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/RandSMusicals?feature=mhee. Look for clip titles that begin with "TIAT".

The Wainwright family are on vacation in England, but their car breaks down in the midst of a mysterious fog. They find themselves in what they think is a quaint re-enactment village for tourists. Meanwhile, the guardian fairies of the village are in a quandary: all the villagers seem stuck in their stories. Puss-in-Boots has no boots, Cinderella never tried on her golden slipper, the frog can't get anyone to kiss him . . . and what happens when you touch a Golden Goose? Several folk tale stories, both famous and not-so-famous, are woven together in this story. Come see what will happen to the Wainwright family as they are ... Trapped in a Tale.

We've launched our own Youtube channel. So far, it has some clips from last year's production, These Are the Voyages. plus Flight 714 to Wimbleyvale.

A NEW PLAY!
In a time of Facebook and online chat and Youtube, where we openly share our thoughts, our laughs, our pictures, our music and videos, it is difficult to understand what it was like for young people to grow up in a totalitarian country where playing Beatles tunes and other "subversive music" could put you in prison, where a joke overhead by the wrong person could land you in a forced labor camp, and where you could be shot for trying to leave the country.

Iron CurtainThe Sound of Freedom is set in Prague, Czecho-slovakia, in 1968. A small group of teenagers meet together secretly to listen to rock'n'roll on Voice of America radio. The gymnast, the artist, the girl whose father has been arrested, the musicians and students -- they want more of the freedom that was promised by the Prague Spring openness. But that has been crushed by Soviet tanks. These teens trust each other, but do they trust too much? Everyone has a secret, and some secrets are more dangerous than others. Even the secret state police agent, Statna Agent Lomsky, has a secret.

Come see this short dramatic play performed by Seattle Homeschool Christian Co-Op.

Friday, May 20 at 7 p.m.
Saturday, May 21 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Here are some pictures from 2009's summer theatre workshop. It was our first time ever running a two-week theatre camp, so we chose a "simple" format of putting on a revue - a story woven around several songs from previous R & S shows, plus one favorite song from Man of La Mancha - "To Dream the Impossible Dream."
Impossible Dream

Some of the girls had a big belting number too:

Magnify!

A total of 14 actors played 46 different roles.
Listen!

And here are Senators Botox, Phil E. Buster and N. Cumbent. (Okay, so we have fun with puns!)

We had lots of fun - and look forward to lots of fun this summer too.
